Miller Bloodmobile

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct a bloodmobile at the First United Church of Christ's air-conditioned Fellowship Hall (next to Borough Hall) on Monday, Aug. 15. Registration hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.This visit is sponsored by Janet Snyder.Off-street parking will be available at Penn Northeast (both sides of the building), and at the former Golden Key parking lot, by permission of the owners.Prior to the bloodmobile, Miller will hold a training/review course, also on Aug. 15, for new and existing volunteers, in the parlor of the First UCC, from 9-11 a.m.New volunteers should contact Perma Snyder at (610) 826-3511, so that Miller can have sufficient supplies on hand.This free training will allow them to act as canteen workers and/or donor aides. There are no prior experience requirements for either positions.At the bloodmobile in the UCC's air-conditioned Fellowship Hall, high school graduates and college students are especially urged to donate during the summer, when schools and colleges are not in session and bloodmobiles are not run there.Those eligible are encouraged to donate blood components (platelets, plasma, and/or red cells) on the Trima machines.This process gives you credit for 2 or 3 units, and takes an hour to an hour-and-a-half. Also, new donors are always needed.Minimum requirements are 17 years of age (no maximum age), 110 pounds, no tattoos or body piercings within the last 12 months.Previous cancer patients who have been cancer-free for one year may now be eligible to donate.For specific medical information, call Miller toll free at 1-800-223-6667 during office hours.First-time donors should bring photo ID, such as a driver's license.Previous Miller donors should bring their Miller ID cards.For more information, or to make an appointment, call George Ashman at (610) 826-2097.Park concertOn Sunday, July 31, the country group, Crazy Heart, will perform in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand beginning at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.In case of rain, the event will be held in the Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.
