An inmate in the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Frackville, Schuylkill County, was found dead in his cell on Sunday, July 24.

Luis Diaz, 31, formerly of Pottsville, was found unresponsive and hanging in his cell at about 10:20 p.m. Staff was making rounds when they found Diaz, said prison Superintendent Robert Collins. The staff immediately started CRP as medical staff responded to the scene.Diaz was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Catherine's Hosptial, Ashland. The investigation of the incident has been turned over to the state police, as is the policy, and the county coroner's office.Diaz was serving a six to 14-year sentence for aggravated assault on a police officer imposed by the Schuylkill County court. He was sentenced on March 31 and had been at SCI Frackville since June 22.
