Brutalized by a decade-long civil war, the people of Sierra Leone continue to recover after being devastated by war and poverty.

With that very thought in mind, the One Love Foundation will present a documentary film screening, Pride of Lions, Hope carries life forward in Sierra Leone.There will be two showings: the first, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Neumann Regional School, 259 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton; and the other, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic church Social Hall, 462 West Ludlow St., Summit Hill. Admission is $5 for both screenings.The speaker will be Rev. James Sandy, founding director of St. Mary's Orphanage in Sierra Leone, and adviser to One Love Foundation school projects in Sierra Leone, West Africa.Currently, there are more than 600 orphans and street children in the villages and areas the One Love Foundation supports. As many as possible are placed in foster type care, but most live in the orphanages or on the streets. These children have lost their parents due to the ravages of civil war or disease.On a visit to the Allentown Diocese, Father Sandy is offering summer relief to several parish priests in the local area.An award-winning documentary, Pride of Lions tells the story of what it means for a country and its people brutalized by an 11-year civil war to move beyond their scars. It is a story of hope, forgiveness and the strength of the human spirit.The purpose of the documentary is to raise awareness and funds to support the needs in Sierra Leone; specifically the cost of sending a 40-foot container in September full of items for the school projects, clinics, and communities in Goderich, Mano Dasse and Gerihun, Sierra Leone.The goal of the organization is to secure sponsorships for as many of the orphans as possible. The donations will help ensure the orphans access to an education and the basics of food, clothing and shelter. Lives are also being saved due to an oxygen concentrator donated by Health Solutions, Lehighton, and the Airsep Corp. to the Kono Clinic for Amputees.
