Hot enough to fry an egg!

That old saying "It was so hot you could fry an egg" proved true on Friday.

Outside their cooling center at the Tamaqua Salvation Army in Tamaqua, Major Sharon Whispell and volunteer Kim Latham showed just how intense the triple-digit afternoon temperatures were by cooking an egg in a frying pan on the sidewalk.Inside the air conditioned cooling center, volunteers provided relief for any residents suffering with power or heat-related issues. Cold refreshments and snacks were provided at no charge and guests with caged or leashed pets were also permitted.Whispell advised residents to check on their friends and neighbors, no matter their age, as the heat wave continues. The Salvation Army will keep their cooling center open as long as the hot weather warrants.Anyone needing assistance from the heat can call (570) 668-1234 for more information.
