The Schuylkill County Salary Board fixed the salary of the newly appointed administrator of Rest Haven Home at a meeting held following the commissioners meeting Wednesday at the courthouse in Pottsville.

At the commissioners meeting, Martina Chwastiak, director of Human Resources, recommended Jill Schaeffer, of Pottsville, be appointed administrator to fill a vacancy. The salary board set her salary at $70,918 per year.Controller Melinda Kantner, a member of the board, questioned if the job had been posted.Chwastiak said under a county policy an inhouse employee, who is qualified, can be appointed. She added that Schaeffer was "well qualified;" as she is a registered nurse and had headed the nursing department at the home. "She has all the credentials," Chwastiak reported. Kantner insisted on seeing the policy which permitted the appointment without the job being posted. The board also established a position as per diem court reporter after the commissioners were informed during their meeting that Marjorie Lally, Lavelle, Butler Township, was retiring and the court planned to re-hire Paul Troutman, Gordon, former court reporter on a per diem basis. The salary board fixed the salary at $20.60 per hour. The board also was informed Janet Conville, Port Carbon, was retiring as a district justice assistant.
