Northern Lehigh School District has dubbed a former Bangor administrator to be its new high school principal.

The school board, on a 5-0 vote at a special meeting on Friday, appointed Robert Vlasaty to the post at a salary of $95,000 (prorated 2011-12 school year), effective Monday. Directors Mathias Gren, Gary Fedorcha, Lauren Ganser and Lori Geronikos were absent.Vlasaty, 42, of Nazareth, had most recently served as principal at Bangor High School, a position he had held for the past three years. Prior to that, he spent 13 years at Pocono Mountain East, four of which were as an assistant principal.Contacted this week, Vlasaty told the TIMES NEWS he was eager to start his new position."I'm very excited about coming to the school district. It has a great reputation of hard work and excellence, something I myself emulate," Vlasaty said. "I look forward to bringing some great things here, and am looking forward to working with the great kids of Northern Lehigh."Vlasaty said he's encouraged by the current direction of the school."I'm not looking to change anything at this point," he said. "Right now, I need to meet the people, see what's in place, and work together in a team capacity to try to tweak and polish some things that need to be tweaked and polished."Vlasaty said he believes all the right pieces are in place for the district to continue its success."I don't see any glaring problem at all," he said. "I think it's a great school district, and I think (Superintendent) Mike Michales has done a great job with the education."The closeness the community exhibits is a characteristic Vlasaty said he hopes will continue."It's a very close, tight-knit community, which is something I embrace," he said. "I love community involvement, and it's something I will definitely look to maintain."Vlasaty replaces former high school Principal Aileen Yadush, who resigned last month to become principal at Northwestern Lehigh High School.Yadush had served as high school principal at Northern Lehigh since 2006.
