Hearing on Schwab school is postponed

A hearing on zoning violations at the Schwab School building in Weatherly, that was scheduled for tomorrow, has been continued.

The new date for the hearing for Larry Halstead of Virginia, who owns the building, is Monday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko.Halstead purchased the landmark structure in 1997 for $40,000. At the time, he represented Bradd and Hall Associates of Lynchburg, VA.He allegedly has let the building deteriorate, and was given 16 summary citations by Weatherly Borough Manager Harold Pudliner.Among the issues listed in the citations are windows, interior surfaces, stairs and walking surface, roofs, interior doors, weeds, sidewalks and driveway, and porches.Although originally Halstead promised to preserve the building, little work has been done to it.Halstead now has the building listed on an internet Web site for sale, and he says in the sale ad that he would trade it for a "retired cruise ship" or collectable cars.
