Tamaqua hit and run

A Tamaqua man turned himself in to police Friday morning after a hit and run acident in the borough earlier the same morning.

Police were dispatched to West Broad and Lafayette Streets at 1:30 a.m. Friday for a hit and run accident. The victim, William Glen of Schuylkill Haven, told officers he had been traveling west on Broad Street, in a 1993 Dodge, when a white Subaru station wagon pulled out from Lehigh Street, striking his Dodge.Following the impact, the Subaru's driver exited his car, checked for damage, asked if there were any injuries, then left the scene, continuing north on Lafayette Street. Witnesses saw the Subaru turn left on to Lafayette Street. Officers checked the area and discovered a badly damaged vehicle, matching the description of the hit and run vehicle, parked in a yard at 231 Catawissa Street.The damaged vehicle was determined to belong to Brandon Fritz, 25, of 233 Catawissa St., Tamaqua. Officers were unable to locate Fritz at the time and a message was left for him.Fritz returned the call and visited the police station at 9:10 a.m. Friday, admitting to being the driver at the time of the accident.Charges are pending.
