Elderly man dies when moped hit by tractor-trailer

An elderly Dauphin County man was killed on Thursday when he pulled the moped he was operating into the path of a tractor-trailer rig. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 4:11 p.m. along East Grande Avenue (SR209), at North Keystone St., in the village of Muir, in Porter Township, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said Lloyd Kreiser, 74, of Lykens, was operating a 2007 Kymco Super 8 moped and was stopped on North Keystone Street for a stop sign. He then pulled out and into the path of a 2005 Mack tractor with tanker trailer which was northbound on SR209.Troopers said the rig driver, Jeffrey Snyder, 60, of Elizabethville, Dauphin County, swerved to try and avoid Kreiser but could not do so. The moped collided with the right rear trailer tires.Kreiser was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy county coroner Joseph Pothering. Snyder was not injured. Damages were severe to the moped and none to the rig. The tanker was empty, troopers said, but is used to carry propane. The rig is owned by Koppy's Propane of Williamstown, Schuylkill County.
