Car fire on SR443 in Walker Township

ANDY LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS West Penn police and firefighters responded to a car fire Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. along SR443 in Walker Township, near the West Penn Township border and across from the PennDOT building. When firefighters arrived, they noticed a silver Pontiac Grand Prix emitting smoke, which quickly turned into a ball of fire in the engine compartment. The driver of this vehicle, who wouldn't give his name, noted that this was the second vehicle this week he lost to a car fire on the same road. The first vehicle caught on fire in West Penn Township on Sunday going up the SR443 Clamtown hill. State Police also responded. West Penn fire police closed SR443 and detoured traffic around the area for the response. There were no reported injuries.
