The July meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker and Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. in attendance.The board received a monthly report from Health Enforcement Officer James Barron, who reported making a general inspection at the South Ward Playground. Barron also reportedly made spot check inspections at Sisters Cantina, Our Family Mini Mart, Hess Express, Schick's Cafe, BPO Elks Lodge 592 and Fegley's Mini Mart. He received and adjusted nine complaints: five for rubbish/garbage; two infestations; one strong odor; and one building unfit for human habitation.There were no cases of reportable diseases during June.The board meets the first Tuesday of each month, at 11:30 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building.Seniors meetThe Tamaqua Seniors met July 7 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 82 members in attendance. One new member was welcomed. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled, "God, Are You There?" Reports were offered by vice president Doris Brobst and secretary Joan Anne Garber. President Machamer offered a reading.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school meets at 9:30 a.m.Vacation Bible School will begin July 18 and run through July 22, from 6-8:30 p.m. each evening. Children from the age of three through 12th grade are welcome. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and there is no charge.
