Heavy equipment rolled onto the Panther Valley High School property to begin work to remedy the ongoing mine subsidence problem at the parking area, according to an official with the federal Office of Surface Mining in Wilkes-Barre. Civil Engineer Pat Acker of the Anthracite Reclamation Programs Branch said a crew of workers began backfilling sink holes caused by subsidence from an old strip-mining operation.
