Meals on Wheels of Palmerton honors volunteers

Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Palmerton began in 1972. The nonprofit 501-C3 organization provides meals prepared at the Palmerton Hospital for residents in the community who cannot prepare their own and are delivered by a group of dedicated volunteers.

At a picnic held at Palmerton Memorial Park, many of the volunteers and board members, were recognized for their dedication.Darlene Nothstein has been named the new president of the MOW board of directors. Bill Gallagher is vice president, Marge Parambo is secretary and Susie Blose is the treasurer. The officers presented Irene Shinsec, the outgoing president, with a beautiful flower arrangement as a "thank you."She served as president for the last seven years and has been a volunteer for over 30 years.MOW serves approximately 70 meals per week. Sometimes the volunteers are the only people the clients come in contact with and so they often provide more than just a meal.MOW needs volunteers and donations to keep this much-needed service going. If you would like to help in any way, please contact MOW coordinator, Richard Bowman at 135 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, PA 18071 or call 610-826-1163.
