Frank B. DiMiceli, a member of Nesquehoning Borough Council who has devoted most of his life to public service, died unexpectedly on Monday in Nesquehoning.

DiMiceli, who was a former chief of police in Weatherly and also had been a member of the Capitol Police Department in Washington D.C., had served two years on the borough council.His term expires at the end of this year and he was not seeking re-election.On the council, he was chairman of the Fire, Ambulance, and Public Safety Committee. He also served on the Sanitation Committee, Buildings Committee, and Sewer Committee.Mayor Tony Walck of Nesquehoning, who worked closely with him on the committee that DiMiceli chaired, said of his passing, "It's a sad thing and my heart goes out to his family."He was retired from the Pa. Office of Attorney General, Bureau of Narcotics Investigations. With the bureau, he was assigned to work undercover investigations and was Pa. State Wire Tap Certified.He had been involved in some of the biggest drug trafficking arrests in Eastern Pennsylvania while serving with the bureau.In the borough, besides being on the town council, he also was a lifetime member of the Nesquehoning Fire Department.Fire Chief John McArdle said DiMiceli "was pretty active in the fire company." The chief said DiMiceli had held various offices in the department, including being a former lieutenant and past president of the Nesquehoning Firemen's Relief Association."Throughout the years he was active in various capacities," said McArdle.Mayor Walck said he had been at his home when he received the call about DiMiceli's passing. "It was really a shock to hear that he died," the mayor commented.He said DiMiceli was passionate about his efforts. "When he got into something, he really got into it," Walck said. "He was a good guy to work with."DiMiceli is the son of Blaise J. DiMiceli of Nesquehoning and the late Angelina DiMiceli.He is a graduate of Panther Valley High School.His career in law enforcement began in 1978 with the Nesquehoning Police Department. He then transferred to the Weatherly Police Department when he initially was a patrolman, but was elevated to lieutenant and then promoted to chief of police.With the state's Bureau of Narcotics Investigations, he was assigned to the Courier Apprehension Team, Drug Interdiction Unit, Aggressive Drug Patrol, Multi-County Drug Task Force Supervisor, High Risk Entries, High Risk Arrests, Reverse Drug Stings, and Buy-Bust Operations.He also taught courses regarding combatting illegal drugs.DiMiceli was also a social member of the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008, charter member of the Rolling Thunder Veterans Support Organization, member of the Nesquehoning Democratic Club, and member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.He previously served on the Nesquehoning Civil Service Commission and the Nesquehoning Zoning Hearing Board.A memorial service will be held for DiMiceli at noon on Friday in the Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, with calling hours 10 a.m. to noon on Friday at the funeral home.
