Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes investigated by troopers along Schuylkill County roadways earlier this week.

On Monday, June 13, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of state routes 61 and 183 in North Manheim Township, about 3:42 p.m. Troopers said Lee F. Dermo, 25, of New Ringgold, was operating a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlas northbound on 183 intending to turn left onto 61 northbound while Adhurim Xhemajli, 27, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Venture at the intersection jughandle and crossing 61. Both drivers had a green light, troopers said.As Xhemajli crossed the intersection Dermo turned left directly into his path. The front of the Venture hit the front right of the Cutlas. The impact occurred in the southbound lane, troopers said.A passenger with Xhemajli, Rachel Xhemajli, 26, same address, complained of pain and was in advance stages of pregnancy. She was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for evaluation. Xhemajli, Dermo and his passengers, Troy A. Hardy, 20, Bowmanstown, and Amanda M. Everitt, 20, of Palmerton, were all not injured.Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Troopers cited Dermo for vehicle turning left.The second crash occurred about 1:18 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, along SR209 at Fourth St., in Tower City. Troopers said Earl P. Houser Jr., 63, of Lebanon, operating a 2005 Dodge Dakota, was attempting to turn left off Fourth onto 209 and failed to see Andrew S. Knapp, 54, of Dalmatia, Northumberland County, driving a 1995 Ford Escort LX, eastbound on 209.Troopers said Knapp saw Houser pulling out in front of him, applied his brakes, and attempted to avoid a collision but could not and the vehicles collided.Houser, Knapp and his wife, Judith A. Knapp, 61, were all not injured.Troopers said Houser will be cited for causing the crash.
