Ghyslyn T. Laviolette of Boulder, Colo., daughter of Carol A. Addy and Charles Laviolette of Lehighton, graduated from the Morgridge College of Education at The University of Denver on Friday, June 3.

Dr. Laviolette is a 1990 graduate of Lehighton Area High School. She completed her undergraduate work at Penn State University, where she earned a bachelor of arts in psychology in 1994.During her senior year at Penn State, Laviolette was a sibling coach for the Fast Track Project.After graduation, she worked for a year as a child care counselor for Kidspeace, Bethlehem. Laviolette then returned to University Park to work for The Meadows Psychiatric Center as a therapeutic support technician and pursue a master of education degree. She earned her master's in counseling education in 1997, graduating cum laude.She then did her practicum in individual counseling at the Cedar Clinic of Penn State University and her internship in counseling at the Stormbreak Youth Shelter in State College. Laviolette then worked for ETC as a mobile therapist in Lewistown, before moving to Boulder in 1998.In Colorado, Dr. Laviolette worked for Community Reach Center, Thornton, first as a psychiatric services liaison and later as a child and family therapist.In 2004, she began her graduate studies in child, family, and school psychology at the University of Denver.While pursuing her degree, she did presentations and lectures for the Colorado Society of School Psychologists, the National Association of School Psychologists, the American Psychological Association, and the Colorado Department of Education. She did her School Psychology Ph.D. Practicum in Boulder Valley School District and her School Psychology Ph.D. internships for the Colorado Department of Education, Exceptional Student Leadership Unit and for the Mountain BOCES/Park County School District.Laviolette also co-authored the article "Training Professional Psychologists in School Consultation: What the Syllabi Suggest for the Training and Education in Professional Psychology Journal." Her dissertation is titled "Promoting Smooth Transitions for Children in Foster Care."Dr. Laviolette currently resides in Boulder. She was a behavior specialist for the St. Vrain Valley School District in Longmont, Colo., for the 2010-2011 school year. She will be a building team leader/school psychologist at the Erie Middle School in the St. Vrain School District for the 2011-2012 school year.
