Storms continue wreaking havoc through the area

Excessively strong, late springtime storms continue to wreak havoc in our area.

Men and women of Hometown fire police were busy manning a barbecue chicken fundraiser on Saturday at Hometown Fire Company on Route 54 when a storm blew through, toppling trees and bringing down power lines near the Hometown Nursing Center. The volunteers had to relinquish those duties for the day in order to direct traffic at the scene. In addition to the danger overhead, at least one utility line was torn from utility poles and visible on the ground. The highway was closed to traffic most of the day as emergency crews worked. It was déjà vu for the emergency crews as a similar event had taken place near the same site the night before.
