DUI arrests in Schuylkill

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two driving under the influence (DUI) arrests made by troopers over the past weekend, one stemming from a crash.

Troopers said about 1:56 a.m. Sunday, May 15, Zachary J. Tyson, 24, of Shamokin, was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on Ridge Road, in Upper Mahantongo Township, when he fell sleep. The Jetta went off the road and traveled up an embankment before flipping over onto its roof.Tyson showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for DUI. He refused to submit to a blood test and will lose his license for a year for the refusal.About 2:27 a.m. Monday, May 16, troopers stopped Christopher Childs, 31, of Schuylkill Haven, operating a 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck along E. Main Street between Manheim Road and Taft Street, in North Manheim Township, for several traffic violations.Childs showed signs of intoxication and refused to submit to field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson Street, Pottsville, where he submitted to a blood test.The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.
