Car hits Nesquehoning utility pole, forcing the closing of Route 209

State route 209 in Nesquehoning was closed to traffic for several hours Sunday night and early Monday after a one car crash left a PPL utility pole, carrying high power lines, dangling across the roadway.

The crash occurred at 9:59 a.m. about a half mile east of the intersection with SR93. The male driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene by members of the Nesquehoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics, then handcuffed and placed into a Nesquehoning police cruiser. He was later taken for a blood alcohol test at the Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.The driver, Craig Cannon of Weatherly, was traveling south on SR209 when he lost control, his vehicle snapping off the utility pole, forcing Nesquehoning fire police to close down the roadway between Nesquehong and Jim Thorpe.Nesquehoning, assisted by Jim Thorpe and Lansford police departments, are investigating the incident. The Nesquehoning fire department responded to the scene.
