Loud disturbance leads to scuffle in school foyer

An audience member was escorted out of the Jim Thorpe Area High School gymnasium after he caused a loud disturbance while graduation ceremonies took place Friday evening.

The incident occurred after a male, whose identity was unknown as of press time, made a lengthy sound that appeared to come from an air horn as graduates of the Class of 2011 received their diplomas. An officer believed to be from the Jim Thorpe Police Department who was assigned to cover the graduation ceremony entered the stands to remove the male. The male appeared to resist arrest as he was being escorted into the foyer area of the school, which prompted the officer to take him down to the ground. The officer then picked the male up and continued to escort him outside the building as several other individuals believed to be associates of the male followed. The officer appeared to call for back up.It was unknown whether charges were filed against the individual, as efforts to reach the Jim Thorpe Police Department for comment late Friday evening were unsuccessful.Commencement exercises continued without interruption.
