A Carbon County man, scheduled to go on trial Friday, June 10, on charges of simple assault and harassment, instead entered a guilty plea on Thursday in the county court after agreeing to a plea bargain.

Joseph Wayne Easton, 23, pleaded to one count of simple assault-by mutual consent. He was charged for an incident on Jan. 20, at 346 Delaware Ave.According to borough police Easton returned to an apartment at that address where he was living with Gregory Shiner. Easton and Shiner got into a dispute during which Easton assaulted Shiner.Shiner sustained an injury to his right eye and bruises and was taken to the Palmerton hospital for treatment.Senior Judge Scott Naus, of Columbia County and specially presiding in Carbon, accepted the plea.Naus sentenced Easton to serve 30 days to one year in jail, pay a fine of $300, make restitution to Shiner in the amount of $2,545.24, have no contact with Shiner or his family, agreed to a three year protection from abuse (PFA) order for Shiner and his family, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.Naus gave Easton credit for 30 days spent in the county prison on the charge and immediately paroled him. Easton, however, will not be released from custody as he has two detainers filed against him, one from Northampton County and one from Lehigh County. Both are for probation/parole violations.
