Luzerne County man in probation program

A Luzerne County man, ready to go on trial before a jury on Tuesday in Carbon County court, instead accepted a plea bargain with the district attorney's office and was placed in a probation program.

Patrick Mark Prokop, 31, of Drifton, was scheduled to go on trial on charges of terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. He accepted the offer of placement in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program.He was arrested on May 26, 2010, following an incident at Hickory Run State Park, Kidder Township. Park rangers alleged he caused a disturbance at the park and had assaulted children. In entering the program Prokop does not admit guilt.Judge Steven R. Serfass placed him in the program for six months and ordered he pay $500 for the costs of the program, get a mental health examination and follow any recommendation for treatment, attend and complete anger management counseling, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
