JROTC instructor hired by Panther Valley board

The Panther Valley School board hired Joseph A. Jordan, SFC, as a full-time permanent JROTC non-commissioned officer army instructor at the high school.

Jordan replaces SFC Steven Caddy, who will retire as of July 1. Jordan's salary will be determined based on U.S. Army guidelines.During the meeting, resident John Barna asked why he has been the only person limited to three minutes during the public comment sessions."People have talked for 10 to 15 minutes. I alone have been limited to three minutes," he said. "I want an explanation right now.""I'm not going to answer that," board president Jeff Markovich replied.Director Koreen Nalesnik said that at the last meeting, Barna had been afforded "seven or eight minutes." Barna proceeded to address the board.While he was speaking, Markovich, Nalesnik, and directors Dave Hiles and Anthony DeMarco left the room. When Barna was finished speaking, they returned.In other business, the board approved a letter of agreement between Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc. for drug and alcohol prevention/intervention services for the 2011-12 school year in the amount of $7,350.In personnel issues, the board approved John Ruzicka, Theresa Faenza, Melissa Leslie, and Deborah Schaller as substitute summer cleaning persons at a rate of $8.40/hour.Elizabeth Walsh, high school library teacher, was moved into the Masters +30 column of the PVEA pay scale, effective immediately. Julia Whitehead was transferred from Grade 4 teacher to Grade 2 teacher, effective at the start of the school year.Maintenance supervisor George "Smokey" Krajnak advised the board that bid requests have gone out for the demolition of the former Verta building, which is adjacent to the district's stadium in Lansford. The bids include a $500 per day fine if the demolition is not completed by Aug. 1. Krajnak said that the bids will be opened on June 13 and discussed at the buildings and grounds committee meeting.
