Memorial Day

The Veterans Bureau reported 37,000 American flags were distributed to various veterans organization to decorate the graves of veterans for the traditional Memorial Day observance. The bureau also reported since last Memorial Day 780 county veterans have died.Divorces grantedTerry J. Kranch, 380 Wildcat Road, Tamaqua R.D., was granted a divorce from Amy Kranch, 227 Owl Creek Road, Tamaqua R. D. They were married Jan. 21, 1999,Patricia M. Paceley, Tower City, was granted a divorce from James C. Paceley, 17 Walnut St., Delano. They were married Nov. 6, 1993.Robert J. Barrett Jr., Saint Clair, was granted a divorce from Colleen T. Barrett, 25 Catawissa St., Tuscarora, Schuylkill Township. They were married Oct. 2, 1995.Andrea Renninger was granted a divorce from Scott Renninger, both of Orwigsburgs. They were married Sept. 9, 1995.Thomas Conroy Jr., Frackville, was granted a divorce from Teri Conway, Ashland. They were married Feb. 14, 1988.File for divorceJeffrey J. Palubinsky, 282 Slabtown Road, Catawissa, Columbia County, started a divorce action against Cindy E. Palubinsky, 325 W. Pine St., Mahanoy City. They were married Aug. 31, 1995.Ethnic caseMiriam Leticia Malave, 38, Shenandoah, entered a guilty plea to a charge of ethnic intimidation and was sentenced by Judge John J. Domalakes to serve nine to 24 months in a state correctional institution. On a charge of criminal conspiracy she was ordered to serve an additional 24 months on probation under state supervision. She received credit for spending 90 days in the county prison.Malave was cited by Shenandoah Patrlman Robert Senape, who charged she made a racially motivated assault in February 2010 in a tavern in the borough.RevocationsJames Doyle, 35, Zion Grove, formerly of McAdoo, had his parole revoked by Senior Judge D. Michael Stine for violating a condition by possessing illegal drugs and was recommitted to the county prison to serve his original sentence of 30 days to 18 months. He will be eligible to apply for reparole July 12. Doyle had pleaded guilty to assaulting his live-in girlfriend . He was charged with the crime by McAdoo Patrolman Jeremuy Talanca.Joseph Frank Temple, 46, Ashland, had his probation revoked by Judge Stine for failing to keep up his court cost payments and restitution and was re-sentenced to serve 48 days to 23 months in the county prison. Since he had already served the 48 days was reparoled under special conditions, he must comply with the standard sex offender conditions governing minor victim, wear a monitoring ankle bracelet for six months, submit to drug and alcohol evaluation, is not allowed to consume any alcohol during his probation and must attend at least two AA meetings each week. He pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault and corruption of minors filed by Ashland Chief Adam Bernodin Jr.Dispose propertyCounty Coroner Joseph E. Lipsett filed a petition to court seeking approval to dispose of personal property acquired while performing his duties.The coroner acquired the personal property of the late Leonard J. Menchefsky, of 736 Clinton St., Pottsville, consisting of a life insurance policy and a 1998 vehicle and no one has claimed the property.Under Pennsylvania law the coroner is required to hold the property for one year after which if the property remains unclaimed the coroner shall place the unclaimed property for public sale with the proceeds of the sale, along with unclaimed death benefits, turned over to the county commissioners for proper disposal.
