Weissport Council members tabled adopting a new property code maintenance ordinance until it is "tweaked" a little more under the advice of their solicitor Attorney Michael Greek.

Greek said that he would like to see provisions in the code that would require renters to install carbon monoxide detectors."The fire company likes carbon monoxide detectors," said Greek. Greek also said that he is also taking out the section that deals with appeals to code violations."You can't give someone 30 days to cut their grass and then another 30 days to appeal," he said. "With the new provision, you give a resident three days to cut their grass and if not done within three days, you issue a citation."Greek said that council also has to determine who will issue the citations."The code will address commonsense stuff," said Greek.Arland Moyer, council member, noted that the project to change stop and street signs is nearly complete.Council also adopted by resolution a Police Standard Operating Procedure, a document that provides formal written guidelines or instructions for incident response. It enables the police officer to act in a coordinated fashion in the event of an emergency.Council also opened bids for the used yellow 1997 Ford F-350 dump truck. The truck was purchased in December 2008 at a cost of $7,500. The truck was never able to be put on the road because of one mechanical failure or another. Council members decided to put the truck up for bid for scrap metal. High bidder was Robert Veneziano of Bellefonte for $1,802.The funds generated will be used to help pay for the new 2011 Silverado dump pick up truck that was purchased in December 2010 for $43,860.Council vice president Sue Pywar thanked Sensinger's Greenhouse and Mayor Jonathan Troutman for their part in planting flowers in the park.Council president Timothy Rehrig said that council should consider becoming part of a street light membership pool to get a savings on the cost of electricity for street lights. Rehrig also noted that council should consider designing a uniform application for people to fill out who want to use the Weissport Park for events.Rehrig offered to begin working on the form. He said the form should inform applicants who is responsible for trash removal and clean up, plus for any ongoing costs.
