Trail days gathering

About 45 riders gathered on Saturday at the developing Slatington trailhead after previewing the new Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor trails. About 20 riders rode from the new East Penn Township boat launch in Carbon County to the developing Slatington Trailhead, which about five miles and another 25 people rode the second, longer ride that started in Cementon and headed north. Both sets of riders met D&L's mascot "Mulegellan" one of the painted mules from a program which started many years ago to bring attention and much needed funds to begin the process of forming a continous 165 mile trail from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol. Allen Sache, D&L president and executive director, said the next step is to develop the parking area at Slatington, which will include defined parking spaces and landscaping.
