Cressona band

The Cressona Band will perform two free mini concerts in Tamaqua this summer.The first event will be held June 8, at 7 p.m., at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, 222 E. Broad St. The concert will be sponsored by Shafer's Pharmacy and Dr. Richard Chwastiak.The second concert will be performed July 13, at 7 p.m., at the East End Playground. Rain date will be July 14, same time and place.The public is welcome to attend either or both events. Featured music will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.ACS relayThe Relay for Life of Tamaqua and Surrounding Communities will meet one final time before the annual relay event.The meeting will be held June 6, at 7 p.m., at the LCCC Morgan Center, room 104/105. The meeting is open to all who plan to participate or support the relay.Team tent sites will be selected, so at least one representative from each registered team should attend.Committee members will meet prior to the meeting, at 6:30 p.m.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.The service will include recognition of graduates and the presentation of scholarships.Also on Sunday, a special worship service will be held at 3 p.m. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Rev. David Knoebel's ordination. Rev. Knoebel is a son of the congregation.Activities for next week include: Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.First MethodistThe Rev. James Caravellero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church.The Trevorrow Scholarships will be awarded and 2011 graduates and 50-year members will be recognized. The service will also include Holy Communion and will be followed by a family-style dinner.Activities for next week include: Monday, Jesus in the Steps program meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m; Wednesday, United Methodist Women will meet at 6 p.m. at the Normal Square Inn.The annual Strawberry Festival is scheduled for June 11, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.The summer movie series is scheduled to begin June 26, at 7 p.m. The film "The Bishop's Wife," starring Loretta Young and Cary Grant, will be the feature presentation.St. John's LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Immediately following the service, there will be a rehearsal for the second year confirmands and their parents.Activities for next week will include: Monday, Music and Worship Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Bible study at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, garden maintenance from 8 a.m. until noon.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley.The service will be followed by a congregational meeting.The Confirmation class will meet after the congregational meeting. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, Chris Hafer will lead a Bible study session, at 6:30 p.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church.
