Playground opening

The South Ward Playground will re-open this Saturday.The park was closed due to a total renovation and construction project.A ribbon cutting for the South Ward Community Center was held May 27.Longtime playground fans will find things a bit topsy-turvy, as the basketball court was relocated to the Race Street side.The community center stands where the basketball court was previously located.New equipment has been installed, designed to federal safety guidelines.ACS makeoverThe American Cancer Society will host a Look Good, Feel Better makeover workshop from 4-6 p.m., June 13, at the Carbon-Tamaqua Office of the American Cancer Society, 33 W. Ridge Street, Lansford.The session is free and open to all local female cancer patients actively undergoing cancer treatment.During the session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss ways of using makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.Look Good, Feel Better is offered in a group setting, providing participants with cancer education, information and support.Each woman will learn to apply makeup, using kits provided through the American Cancer Society's partnership with the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Fragrance Association and the National Cosmetology Association.Seating is limited, so registration is required.
