Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met May 24 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 38 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered the invocation.Reports were made by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker. Birthday greetings were extended to George Caravello and Nancy Godanis. Readings were offered by Shirley Becker and Florina Martin.A discussion was held concerning the annual picnic, which will be held July 26, at the Grier City Playground. Christy Joy will cater the meal.The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.LCCC summerSummer hours will go into effect this week at the Lehigh Carbon Community Campus Morgan Center in Tamaqua. Vice President Doris Brobst offered an inspirational reading, entitled "God's Garden," in observance of Memorial Day. The observance included the lighting of a candle for each senior member who passed away during the last year.President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.Reports were offered by vice president Brobst and secretary Joan Anne Garber. The group discussed a number of possible outings, including trips to Knoebel's Grove on June 22; Grandma's Restaurant; Yuengling Brewery; Mohegan Sun; and Hollywood.The next meeting will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.
