A Lehighton man was struck and killed by a van on Saturday morning.

State police at Lehighton said the accident occurred about 4:55 a.m. along SR 248, in Franklin Township. Troopers identified the victim as Billy J. Silvers, 31.Troopers said Michael D. Salerno, 41, of Lehighton, was driving a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan eastbound in the right lane and Silvers was walking east in the right lane.The front of the Dodge struck Silvers in the right lane of travel, troopers said. Silvers died from injuries he suffered upon impact with the van.Salerno sustained minor injuries in the accident and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Troopers said no charges were filed against Salerno.Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the Franklin Township Fire Company and Lehighton ambulance EMS unit.
