The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met May 19 with 85 members in attendance. Two guests, Philip Price and Linda Thompson, received warm welcomes.President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation in honor of America's veterans.Reports were offered by Vice President Doris Brobst and secretary Joan Anne Garber. It was noted that Marion Shaffer was hospitalized.The annual memorial luncheon will be held May 26, with lunch served at noon. A candle lighting ceremony will be held in honor of the group's deceased members Thomas Dally, Doris Huchom, Francis Koch and Jean Behr.The next regular meeting will be held June 2, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.Arts campSt. Jerome's Regional School is offering a Summer Performing Arts Camp for Tamaqua area students in grades 2-8. There will be two sessions and each will conclude with a full musical production.In addition to performing, participants will learn about directing plays, set building, staging and communication skills. The camps will run from June 13 to July 1 and July 11 to July 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Features will include intensive acting, singing, movement, fun activities and play time.Deadline for registration will be June 3. For more information, call (570) 668-2757.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Following the service, a memorial service will be held in the cemetery.Activities for next week include: Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m. and Brownies meet at 6:30 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Junior Choir rehearsal at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir rehearses at 7:45 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalThis Sunday, Calvary Evangelical United Methodist and Zion's Lewistown Churches will hold a combined memorial service, at 10:25 a.m., at Calvary Church and Cemetery. The Rev. Sunny Stock of Zion's will conduct, while the Rev. Brian Reading of Calvary will direct the service.Special music will be provided by a combined choir and the Middleport American Legion will provide an honor guard.Also on Sunday, a covered dish luncheon will be held in Zion's social hall, immediately following the memorial service.An Ascension Day Hymn Sing will be held June 1, at 7:15 p.m., at the Reynolds United Methodist Church.
