Community meal

From 4-6 p.m., Thursday, May 26, a free community meal will be held at St. John Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. Come and enjoy a meal and fellowship. No dishes to wash.Teen advisory groupThe Teen Advisory Group will meet at the Palmerton Area Library after school on Wednesday, June 1. The group is for students in grades 7-12. New members are welcome.Palmerton Bandstand ConcertsThe Concourse Club has announced the concerts in the borough park. All concerts begin at 7 p.m., with the rain location being the Palmerton Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Avenue. Bring your own lawn chair.The concerts begin June 12, with the Palmerton Band; June 19 the Nazareth Area Community Band; June 26 will be Who Knows; July 3 the Lehigh Valley Italian-American Band; July 10 the Pennsylvania Villagers; July 13 the Palmerton Band; July 17 will be Remember When; July 24 the David Neith Orchestra; July 31 will be Crazy Heart; Aug. 7 the Hazleton Band; and Aug. 14 the Palmerton Band.Palmerton Lions Club to meetPalmerton Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 6, at the Blue Mountain Community Service Center.Region Chairperson Liz McElwee will review the Community Needs Assessment with members. In addition, a program in memory of "Colby" the hearing dog is planned.Community members are also asked to donate used eyeglasses at Houser Newman Eye Associates, Walters Optometric, First National Bank, Citizens Bank, all located on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton and/or the Palmerton Area High School located on Fireline Road.Eyeglasses are recycled for those in other countries who are unable to afford corrective lenses.In addition, anyone needing financial assistance with eyeglasses can contact committee chairperson, Jim Sheckler at (610) 826-4533.There are financial guidelines that must be followed by all applicants and a written application must be completed and approved.Any individual or business interested in learning more about Lionism, or attending a club meeting may contact membership chairperson Nick Hawkey at (610) 826-6465 or you may email him at
