American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, has scheduled two Memorial Day weekend services to honor men and women who served or who are serving in the Armed Forces.

The first service will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery, White Bear, while the second one will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Ludlow Park.White BearVietnam War veteran John Crampsie, son of former Summit Hill Police Chief Jack Crampsie and his late wife, Margaret (Shober) Crampsie, will be the keynote speaker at the service to be held in White Bear.Crampsie is the owner and founder of NAI Summit, the largest commercial industrial real estate firm in Lehigh Valley region.He is a board member VIA of the Lehigh Valley, a program for youths and adults with disabilities, and a founding board member of Turning Point of Lehigh Valley, which assists victims of domestic abuse. He is also a volunteer the St. Luke Hospital.Crampsie holds a bachelor's degree from Kutztown University and a master's degree from Lehigh University.He and his wife, Marianne, have a daughter, Lauren, who resides in New York City.Post 316 Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be the master of ceremonies for the service. The National Anthem will be sang by Panther Valley High School student Kylie Boswell.The Rev. James Burdess, pastor of the church, will ask the invocation and pronounce the benediction.Panther Valley High School student orators will include: Jerkdil Castillo, who will recite "Lincoln's Gettysburg Address;" Jeremy Thomas, "Logan's General Orders;" and Megan Thomas, "In Flander's Field."Summit Hill Mayor Paul McArdle, past commander, will conduct a POW/MIA service, while Post 316 Chaplain Gregory Miller will read the Roll Call of veterans who have passed away since Memorial Day 2010.The Post 316 firing squad will provide the Salute to the Dead.Summit HillThe service in Summit Hill will begin one hour prior to the start of the annual Memorial Day Parade in which Vietnam War veteran Perry F. Shelton will be the grand marshal.John McFadden, a Summit Hill native who has attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, will be the guest speaker.McFadden is the son of Regina B. "Jean" McFadden of Summit Hill and the late Vincent I. McFadden of Lansford.A 1970 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, he enlisted in the Army in 1973 and advanced to the high level position as a highly-decorated soldier before retiring.O'Donnell will be the master of ceremonies while Mayor McArdle will also conduct the POW/MIA service in Ludlow Park.The invocation will be asked by the Rev. Gordon Burgess, pastor of the Summit Hill United Methodist Church.Panther Valley High School student orators will include: Amber Guzman, who will recite "Lincoln's Gettysburg Address;" Courtney Lazar, "Logan's General Orders;" and Patrick Iezzoni, "In Flander's Field."Chaplain Miller will provide the Roll Call and the Post 123 firing squad will render the Salute to the Dead.Shelton will offer the grand marshal's remarks, and the program will close with the benediction by Rev. Gordon.After the service, Shelton will ring the former Summit Hill High School bell in Ludlow Park to officially signal the start of the parade.Post 316 members request family members of veterans whose graves may have been missed in the pre-Memorial Day decorating of graves, to contact the post to obtain an American flag.
