Pa. 81st Infantry to appear in SH, Tamaqua

Camera buffs and Civil War enthusiasts will have plenty of reason to polish their lenses before the upcoming holiday as photo opportunities will present themselves around the valley. Members of the Pennsylvania 81st Volunteer Infantry will make two local appearances in full uniform on Memorial Day. According to Ted Dombroski, spokesman, the group will take part in the Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade on Monday and then will take the short drive to Tamaqua to appear in a ceremony about 1:30 p.m. at Soldiers Circle GAR Monument in Odd Fellows Cemetery. There they will honor Civil War veterans as well as members of the original Pa. 81st Volunteer Infantry buried at the base of the monument. The group is shown here during a recent appearance at Eckley Miners Village outside Hazleton.
