Law Day at Marian High School

Earlier this month Marian Catholic High School held its Annual Law Day in connection with the national commemoration of Law Day on May 1. This program demonstrates the significance of the law in American society and government.

The program began with a description of the Law Day. For the jury selection, 36 students and faculty members received a jury summons. Steve Lukach, Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts, conducted the voir dire process to determine the make-up of the trial jury. The session concluded with a trial conducted by the Marian Catholic High School Mock Trial Team before attorney Michael Stine, who served as the judge, in which the verdict was rendered.During the jury deliberation period, a question and answer period was held. Students discussed the situation and procedures in their Social Studies classes."I thought it was very interesting," commented Marian junior Samantha Faust, Barnesville. "I liked how real attorney and government officials were part of the program. It made me look at the situation in a different way. I would like to be selected for jury next year."
