State police at Frackville reported investigating a two vehicle crash about 4:14 p.m. Sunday, May 15, along Summer Valley Road (SR895), in East Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said Michael Samuel Marotta, 18, of Fayetteville, N.Y., was driving a 2007 Dodge Nitro eastbound while Kenneth Lee Mertz, 45, of New Ringgold, was operating a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta westbound.Troopers said Marotta fell asleep and his car entered the path of Mertz's vehicle. The Dodge struck a mailbox at 1025 Summer Mountain Road. Mertz swerved to avoid a collision and his vehicle struck a piece of construction equipment that was parked in the driveway of 1025 Summer Mountain Road.Mertz, and his passenger, Michael Iannitelli, of Phillipsburg, N.J., were not injured. Marotta sustained a minor injury, troopers said, but did not indicate if he required medical attention.Troopers said Marotta was cited for causing the crash.
