An opportunity to save money

Dear Editor:

At the Nesquehoning Borough Council meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, President Stromelo remarked that a Teamster's representative stated that I broke the law in taking a borough worker to Tamaqua to aid me in securing a cheaper quote for our garbage. I spoke with the representative and he stated it was a lie, and he never said that. What he did say was that he felt it was not professional of me to have a borough worker involved in such matters. I stated that everyone has a right to their own opinion. However, I pointed out to this gentleman that as an elected official, it is my duty to use whatever means necessary to save the taxpayers of Nesquehoning money. The borough worker in question has known the owner for many years. With his help, I was able to secure a quote $1 per ton cheaper than our President could get. You would think that President Stromelo would be happy that I did this. However, he seems to lack the concept of fiscal responsibility. The owner stated that he was sure his secretary had sent a bid out two weeks ago to the borough office addressed to me. I guess it got lost in the mail. Mr. Stromelo was told that by me. I guess he figured I was fibbing. Another quote was sent, and I will see to it that all council members receive a copy. I assure you that if in the future an opportunity arises again where I can save money for the taxpayers, I will do so.Michael T. SniscakCouncilmanNesquehoning
