The Dolon-Jones-Martino Post 304 Special Kids Fishing Party for kids from schools all over Carbon County was held last Thursday and Friday along the stream running through the Germantown section of Jim Thorpe.

The event was sponsored by the Germantown Grove Club and the Jim Thorpe American Legion Post 304 and this was the 57th year for this event which hosted approximately 240 students over its two day run.It was all started in 1954 as an American Legion function by Germantown resident Phil Rodgers and others.The students were given the opportunity to experience the thrill of the sport by getting to catch fish from the section of the stream that is maintained and stocked with fish by the Germantown Grove Club.In addition to being able to catch some fish, every student was treated to food and refreshments and received a baggy of goodies and they also received toys and other prizes.Everybody who attended the event got something both days and nobody went home empty-handed form the Fishing Party.Assisting in the Fishing Party were volunteer student aids from Jim Thorpe Area High School and Carbon Career and Technical Institute.The smiles on children's faces reflected the fun and excitement that they all experienced during their fishing and fun excursion both days.
