The Tamaqua Business and Professional Women's Club met at La Dolce Casa with President Mary Bridygham in charge of the business session. She provided updates on a number of upcoming events.Tracy Perry offered a program on Stonehedge Gardens in South Tamaqua, and gave a history of the gardens from inception in 1966 through several transformations leading to the present day. Numerous events and programs are held at the area throughout the year, with many being open to the public free of charge. The gardens are open 365 days a year, free of charge. Class members will discuss an upcoming picnic, scheduled for Sept. 4.For more information, or directions, call Charlie at (570) 668-0775.Student recognitionThe Tamaqua Area Student Achievement Committee has finalized plans for the 53rd annual Tamaqua Student Achievement Dinner. The event will be held May 16 in the Tamaqua Area Elementary School.Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Arrangements are available for those who wish to attend the awards ceremony only.Tickets are still available. The theme for this year's event is "Right Brain, Left Brain." A variety of student science projects and art work will be featured.The public is welcome to attend. There is no admission fee.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Rogation Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a children's message. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, the annual Mother/Daughter Banquet will be held at 7 p.m., in the social hall.The Zion's Youth Group will meet May 13, from 7-9 p.m., in Zion's social hall.Zion's Consistory will meet May 16 at 7 p.m.Fitness for Friends, a community exercise class, meets Mondays and Thursdays, 6-7 p.m., in the social hall.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavalerro will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church.Also on Sunday, "Name That Tune," an afternoon of musical fun, will begin at 2:30 p.m. There will be free admission and refreshments.Activities for next week include: Monday, Trustees meeting at 6 p.m., Administrative Council meeting at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
