The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its Spring Tea in the Social Hall of Zion's Church in the Lewistown Valley. The local club, as well as the Weatherly Garden Club, the South Schuylkill Garden Club and the Hometown Social Club were represented by 60 members and guests. June Leiby, president of the Lewistown Club, conducted the business session.Debbie Donnon of Guy's Flowers, Hometown, presented a program explaining the mechanics behind different types of floral arrangements, constructing several arrangements to demonstrate her points. She also provided pointers on flower types and greenery to use for longevity of arrangements. The completed arrangements were then presented to individuals in attendance. Each person also received a free plant.Evelyn Adams provided the arrangement for the tea table, then assisted Louise Flexer with pouring duties. The committee was composed of Mary Bridygham, Ruth Gerber and Cindy Sabol. Refreshments were provided by club members and served by the committee.The next club meeting will be held May 31 at the social hall. Jean Bachert will present the program. For more information, call (570) 668-4288.Senior newsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met May 5 with 85 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "I Know God Must Love Us."Reports were offered by Vice President Doris Brobst, secretary Joan Anne Garber and treasurer Dolores Walck. Discussions were held on upcoming events such as Twitty Fever at Penn's Peak, the Tim Gillis luncheon and the annual memorial luncheon, which will be held May 26.In honor of Mother's Day, Jayne Meyers was presented with a bracelet for being the oldest mother in attendance. Other awards were presented to Nora Sheidy, Rose Mulhern, Edna Fegley, Anna Mae, Frances Kamienski, Dolores Boyle and Muriel Wehr.The next meeting will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a celebration of music. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the church board will meet at 10:45 a.m., Brownies and Daisies meet at 6:30 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, newsletter deadline; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m. and the Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Junior Choir rehearsal at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir rehearses at 7:45 p.m.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.mActivities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, TYM, Bible study and prayer group all meet at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Get a Grip meeting at 7 p.m., child care is provided; Saturday, Iron Sharpens Iron program, in Allentown, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
