The Carbon County Senior Games has helped keep area seniors young at heart for the last 23 years.

Each year, nearly 200 men and women from five county senior centers come out to throw, shoot, swim, dance, and putt their way into the winner's circle.One week of competition has been completed and the nine-time defending champs, the Lehighton senior team, have a comfortable lead. But, it's still anyone's tournament with 10 events left.This week's competition includes, Monday: bowling, ping pong and finishing billiards playoffs; Tuesday: the Philip Steigerwalt Memorial Walk, softball throw, horseshoes, and bocci; and Wednesday: Bingo, pinochle and rummy, and dancing.The overall standings to date are Lehighton in first with a score of 372; Jim Thorpe in second with 170 points; Panther Valley in third with 78 points; Palmerton in fourth with 58 points; and Weatherly in fifth with 26 points.Friday's event included miniature golf.
