2011 Russell "Bups" Ahner game to benefit two Jim Thorpe boys

When the Franklin Township Old-timers take on the Jim Thorpe Old-timers at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, to play the 2011 Russell "Bups" Ahner Memorial Softball Game, the winners will be Luke Hartrum and Hunter Wolfe, both of Jim Thorpe.

Every year, the two teams pick up their bats and balls and put on their team T-shirts to play a benefit softball game for someone with a health problem. This year they are playing for two boys with serious health challenges. The game on May 22 will be played at the Phifer Ice Dam Field, which is located at the intersection of Main Road and Penn Street in Franklin Township. The boys will arrive in a fire truck and then the fun will begin.Food will be prepared by the Franklin Township Little League, plus there will be a bake sale and Chinese auction with a variety of donated items from local businesses and friends, plus a hat will be passed during the game for additional donations. Anyone who has items for the Chinese auction or bake sale should drop off items after 11 a.m. on May 22 at the Phifer Ice Dam Park or at the refreshment stand during any Little League game. Most of the time, the Old-timers teams choose to play the benefit game for a child with a medical problem. Both boys fit that category.
