Food distributionThe Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food to the needy in the community on a monthly basis. Distributions are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of each month.The Summit Hill Lions Club members assist with the packaging and distributions of the food boxes.Anyone wanting information about the pantry, or knowing someone who could use assistance, can contact Rose Marie Armon, (570) 645-3604 or Sandra Hill, 645-4617.Cell phone driveThe Summit Hill Lions Club is conducting a used/old cell phone drive in conjunction with the annual Earth Day observance. The club will collect the used phones, which will be recycled and sold, the purchase price will be used to benefit the Summit Hill Food Pantry.As a convenience to donors, the Lions Club has set up cell phone depository boxes at the following locations: the Summit Hill branch of First Niagara Bank; Northeast Chemical and Supply Co., Lansford; Vermillion's Dental Clinic, Summit Hill; the Tamaqua Area Elementary School; and Hiles Brothers Plumbing & Heating.Donors are asked to make sure the telephone service of the phone is inactivated before they are dropped off. It will take place on Saturday, May 14, with a rain date of Saturday, May 21.Residents are not required to obtain permits to participate in this community event.CoaldaleGOP to meetThe Coaldale Republican Club will meet on Monday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the West Ward Rod and Gun Club. Bob Ames, town chairman, will be in charge of the session.Plans for the upcoming Spring rally to be held on Sunday, May 15, at 6 p.m. at the Coaldale Ambulance Building will be discussed.Final preparations for the May 17 Primary Election will also be made.NesquehoningMeed's ChurchThe Meed's UMC of Nesquehoning will distribute food on Thursday, May 19 from 1-3:30 p.m.On Wednesday, May 25, the free community dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the church. The Senior Boxes will be given out on Friday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to noon.Little League paradeOn Saturday, May 7, members of the Little League will meet at the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 and parade along Center Street beginning at 9 a.m. to the baseball field on West Railroad Street. The games will begin after the parade.Fishing derbyDon't forget the fishing derby at the creek in Nesquehoning will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 9 a.m. Registration is held beginning at 8 a.m. at the CVSparking lot. The derby ends at noon.The event is sponsored by the Nesquehoning Conservation Club. Prizes will be awarded and there will be food for the participants.
