Three injured after vehicle flips in Schuylkill Township

Three people were taken to the hospital as a precaution following a vehicle rollover with entrapment that occurred after 11 p.m. Wednesday night on Catawissa Street in Schuylkill Township. The driver of a black Volkswagen Jetta told firefighters that he lost control after nearly missing three deer that were crossing the road. While traveling south on Catawissa Street, the Volkswagen lost control, skidded sideways for about 100 feet, and then flipped sideways multiple times for an additional 100 feet. The vehicle also snapped a utility pole. The names of the driver, his two passengers and hospitals they were taken to were unknown as of press time today. Witnesses on scene stated the driver and his two passengers appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s. State Police on scene pointed out speed might have been a factor. Firefighters from Tuscarora, Tamaqua and Mary D responded. Paramedics from Tamaqua, Ryan Township and Lehighton Ambulance also responded. Catawissa Street was closed for over an hour during the investigation and cleanup.
