Results of take back day released

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported that 35 pounds of prescription pills and other medicatons were collected during the second annual National Take Back day that was held on Saturday, April 30.

The program is held in conjunction with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.The purpose of the program is to provide a venue for persons who wanted to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.The Philadlephia field office of the DEA collected about 24,650 pounds of unwanted, unused or expired drugs.The effort was a huge success, according to PMRP Chief Harry W. Lewis, who said potentially danagerous prescription drugs, particularly controlled substnaces, were removed from the nation's medicine cabinets.There were about 3,000 state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the U S. who participated in the event. Al told, about 121 tons of pills were turned over by U.S. citizens. The drugs will be destroyed by the DEA.
