Palmerton and Marian students compete in Law Day mock trial

Palmerton and Marian Catholic, the two top mock trial teams in Carbon County, faced off in courtroom no. 1 at the Carbon County Courthouse, Friday, April 29th, 2010 for Law Day, a day that is traditionally observed on May 1st since 1958 in courtrooms across the country.

Both teams made it to the final round of the District 5 competition, which consists of 24 schools in Carbon, Schuylkill, Lehigh, Northampton, and Berks counties.Palmerton defeated Conrad Weiser, Saucon Valley, and Pine Grove. In the final round, Palmerton's Mock Trial Team lost by 2 points to Marian Catholic. Marian Catholic advanced to regionals and was defeated by Wallenpaupack High School.The Palmerton Mock Trial team is advised this year by Mrs. Jennifer Danzeisen, Business Teacher at Palmerton High School and Attorney Steven Vlossak, legal advisor. Mrs. Danzeisen said she is extremely proud of their performances, preparation, and courtroom etiquette during all of the trials in the competition. They had very positive comments from the attorneys and jurors about their behavior as well. Palmerton has advanced to the District 5 championship 4 times and advanced to regionals twice.
