Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, May 7. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only; the shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.Historical SocietyAs has been the custom for several years, the Monday, May 9 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will be a Mystery Tour. Society members and guests should gather at the parking lot across from Hager Furniture by 6:15 p.m. to car-pool to the destination. This replaces the usual meeting at the Palmerton Area Library.Heritage CenterIf you haven't gotten to the Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., yet to see the display of antique quilts, you had better hurry. Later this month, the quilts that have been on display will be replaced by a different group. So many quilts were loaned to the historical society that not all could be displayed at one time. The center is open various hours each Wednesday through Saturday. Phone (610) 824-6954 for a recording listing the time each day.Admission is free.
