Keystone Dock Dogs coming to Cabela's

Keystone Dock Dogs will hold this year's Spring Splash, Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, at Cabela's Hamburg store. This is the first time in more than four years that Dock Dogs has held an event at the store, and entries are expected from many of the top canine athletes from Pennsylvania and surrounding states to compete for more than $2,500 in cash and prizes.

According to event organizers, registration is open to all dogs, and pre-registration is available by accessing the Keystone Dock Dogs website at

www.keystonedockdogs.com. Dogs will compete in Big Air, Extreme Vertical and Speed Retrieve.Big Air is the long jump equivalent for canines, who achieve speeds of more than 20 mph as they catapult themselves off the end of a 40-foot dock into a body of water to make a retrieve. Jump distance is measured from the end of the dock to where the base of the dog's tail breaks the water, and the current world record is 28 feet, 10 inches.Extreme Vertical is a high jump contest, with dogs leaping nearly seven feet in the air to retrieve and knock down a Flappy, which is suspended over the water, eight feet from the end of the dock. The current world record is 7 feet, 10 inches.Speed Retrieve tests canine quickness, with dogs lined up at the 20-foot mark on the dock. On command, handlers release their dog, which then runs, jumps and swims to the end of the pool to retrieve a Flappy. In conjunction with the Spring Splash, a series of firearms seminars for men, women and children will be held both days. Instructors and speakers include Berks County sherriff Eric Weaknecht and the staff of Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays.Women visitors can enter a chance to win a free trip to "NRA's Women's Wilderness Escape" in Raton, N.M.For information about the Keystone Dock Dogs Spring Splash Event, firearms weekend and future events at Cabela's, visit the website at
