Ring your bells with pride

Dear Editor:

This is for all the churches in the Borough of Tamaqua. I wrote a letter to the editor some time ago about not hearing the bells ringing on a Sunday. I had many people agree with me on my article, even one of town's top lawyers.I got a reply from one church, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. They told me they brought it up at a church committee meeting and that they agreed with me. Now what are all the other churches going to do about it?Like I said, the church bells have been ringing for centuries. Why are you people toning down the ringing? I like them like they were always rung. Let all the people all over the town hear them not just the ones in church or the people one block away.I was walking down Railroad Street on Sunday, April 17, and the only one I heard was at Trinity Church and then it only rang five times and barely loud enough for me to hear it. It sounded like it was one that had been toned down for some reason.Like I said before, you hear all the loud automotive noises and the blaring radios on them. Nothing is done about that.So come on churches, ring your bells loud for all the citizens of this town can hear them. Make it like it was for centuries. Ring those bells with pride.Edward R.
