The Tamaqua Area Middle School will host its annual Spring Art Show and Choral Concert on May 5.The annual art show will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. and will feature a variety of artistic creations done by students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. In addition to individual works, there will also be several group projects featured.The Choral Concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature the Middle School Chorus, the High School Jazz Chorale and Concert Choir. Selections will include the best in choral music, as well as the music of the Broadway hit "Rent," Green Day, the Plain White Ts, Cindy Lauper and Journey.Senior newsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met April 14 with 91 members in attendance.Four new members Pat Wagner, Bernard Gallagher, Doris Pierce and Frank Pierce were welcomed to the group.President Jean Machamer offered the invocation, entitled "Imagine Being There," conducted the business session and offered a reading. The invocation was written by Howard Startzel.Reports were offered by Vice President Doris Brobst and Secretary Joan Anne Garber.Pinochle players are still needed for card sessions held following the meeting.The next meeting will be Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.Class of 2011Parents of the Tamaqua Class of 2011 will conduct a used clothing drive the weekend of May 7-8.Donated items are to be dropped off at the Citizen's Fire Company, Rowe Street, between the hours of noon and 3 p.m.Items which may be donated include: wearable, usable clothing; shoes, belts and handbags; coats, hats and gloves; bed and bath linens; stuffed animals and toys.All items must be packaged in plastic garbage bags. Shoes should be in a separate bag.St. Jerome'sIn preparation for Easter, confessions will be heard in St. Jerome's Catholic Church this Thursday, from 3:30-5 p.m. and following the 7 p.m. Mass; Friday, following the 6 p.m. service; Saturday, 2-3 p.m.Other Holy Week activities will include: Holy Thursday, Mass with washing of the feet at 7 p.m., followed by Eucharistic Adoration until 10 p.m.; Good Friday, Stations of the Cross at 3 p.m., service at 6 p.m. ; Holy Saturday, blessing of the baskets at noon, Vigil Mass at 8 p.m.Easter Sunday Masses will be celebrated at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.SW neighborsThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m in room 104 at the Lehigh Carbon Community College Morgan Center.The group plans to participate in a neighborhood clean up this Saturday, weather permitting.In case of rain, a new date will be selected at the April meeting.New members are always welcome.Trinity UCCThe Rev.
